The Flow Beauty Project is about a new way of making and seeing beauty in the salon and in the world.
As a 25 year vet of the beauty biz I have been privileged to have laid my hands upon many a head of hair, and as any tuned in hairstylist will tell you, once the bum is in the chair and the first ounce of trust is built between stylist and client..the energy flows and the things that come out of clients mouths are all too revealing.
People will say the darndest things when they are in the styling chair, tell you their secrets and their friends secrets too. They will reveal more to their stylist than they will to their doctor, their lawyer or their mother for that matter. It can become quite an intimate space, the salon. A sacred bond of sorts can be forged between stylist and client over a period of years. Our clients allow us to see the real them, under the make-up with dripping wet hair and with uncensored emotion at times.
A stylist must have a deep awareness of what is truly going on under the surface. It’s about so much more than cutting or coloring hair. People are revealing parts of themselves, parts of their souls at times when they are in the styling chair, the parts that they usually keep hidden.
Why? Because our clients trust us, this is an honor as well as a privilege, one that we must acknowledge, celebrate and take great care to hold with the highest integrity. We are not only holding peoples sense of self in our hands, all that is wrapped up physically with the way someone’s hair looks, but we are given an invite to enter their energy field (whether they realize it or not).
It is imperative that we do this consciously and with the highest possible vibration as to offer healing and not harm in any way.
We as stylists must make a conscious choice to hold to a high moral and ethical standard when such connections are taking place with our clients. I have experienced it many, many times through out my tenure, and I take this esoteric phenomenon quite seriously.
I like to call it “Hairapy” – part hair-do-ing, part therapy.
Over the years I have just about seen and heard it all. The weird, the wacky, tragic to obscene, and what I know is, for the most part the ups and downs of all of our lives are about the same. It matters not, the color, creed the socio- economic status, or how folic-ly endowed one is, we all seem to want the same things from this life, to be loved, seen and heard, to be healthy, happy and accepted and of course it can’t hurt to have GREAT HAIR!
The FLOW Beauty Project is about understanding this phenomenon we call “Hairapy”, understanding it, and at the same time cultivating a conscious awareness about the unique opportunity we have as stylists /salon pro’s to positively influence the life and soul of the people who visit our chairs.
We must evolve and empower ourselves to be the best, most authentic version ourselves we can be, healthy on the inside and on the outside. Our clients spend week after week, month after month and year after year with us in this sacred relationship we call beauty making.
Beauty must start and end on the inside for it to be true and lasting and I believe it must start with us! We have a great opportunity as Hairstylists to start with ourselves and with what is right under our nose (our clients) we can, and, I believe, must help make the world a better place by connecting with people at the soul level and showing them what true lasting beauty is all about. Getting Flow Whole Beauty coaching ourselves and then coaching others is the way to impart the New Beauty to all who we have the pleasure to serve.
“As I see it, my job of choice has evolved over the years to a calling, a mission really.”
I used to think I missed my calling because I didn’t get a degree in social work or become a PHD in Psychology, never finished that Masters of Fine Art degree, but what I found after showing up behind the chair everyday for over 20 years was that I was living my calling every single day. I was smack dab in the middle of it, but did not have the eyes to see it because I thought it had to have someone else’s idea of success attached to it, a degree from a fancy college or letters that told who I was. It was right under my nose all along. I did not need another thing to feel fulfilled, just the eyes to see and appreciate what I had already had created!
I am a Professional Hairdresser. I am a PHD! Ha!
I literally get to “touch” people’s life’s everyday, with my artistry, my positive attitude, and with my deep caring and nurturing heart. When our connection runs deepest I offer my clients the personal wellness and spiritual lessons I have gleaned over the years. My clients tell me they love it and look forward to their visits. My clients inspire me to be a better version of myself, so that I can “rub off” as a positive influence on them. We teach each other so much.
Day after day, week after week, year after year because they value what I have to offer. I get to grow and evolve into my best most conscious self and express my unique talents with the world everyday, and for this I am so grateful!
I wish the same for you. I am excited to see how The Flow Beauty Project can help you find yourself in the beauty biz, your best most authentic self!
I know the Flow Beauty Project will inspire you to inspire others to be the best they can be- from the inside out!
Your happy, whole and beautiful clients will keep coming back year after year and sending their friends, I promise!!”
Beauty is as beauty does.
